Lachrimae 1604 (Seaven Teares for Viols and Lute)
16세기 영국의 황금시기인 엘리자베스 시대에 성행했던 류트(Lute)
음악의 명 연주자이자 대 작곡가 존 다울랜드(John Dowland)"가 작곡한
21곡의 비올(Viol)연주곡집이있다.
힛트 송 흘러라 나의 눈물을 바탕으로 1604년에 원곡을 편곡한 기악
합주용 작품으로 이중에 7곡의 파반느(Pavan)에는 라크리메(눈물)란 타이
틀이 붙어 있고, 여기에 가야르드, 알라망드등 14곡의 무곡을 첨가시켜
전21곡으로 되어 있다.
다울랜드는 엘리자베드 시대에 유행한 류트 음악의 작곡가이다.
자신이 류트 연주의 명인으로 영국 왕실의 류트 주자로 임명되기도 했다.
그는 류트 독주곡 외에 류트를 반주로 한 류트 송을 80곡 정도 남겼
으며 류트 반주에 독립성을 부여하여 독창 가곡의 형식을 확립하였다.
이것은 르네상스의 서법을 바탕으로 하고 있으나 시의 정서를 대담하게 표현
함으로서 19세기 예술가곡의 선구적 역할을 하였다.
